Responding with practical support
Advancing Climate Resilience and No Poverty, emergency support after the floods. Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 1, No Poverty, SDG 2, Zero Hunger, and SDG 13, Climate Action, the Flood Relief Project responded to severe flooding on the outskirts of Lahore. The team conducted field assessments, prepared relief packages, and made follow up visits, addressing both the immediate food gap and the longer term vulnerability that climate driven disasters create for low income households. This aligns with SDG 1.5, which calls for building the resilience of the poor to climate related shocks.
Objective
The project aimed to provide immediate food assistance and relief supplies to flood affected households, reducing exposure and vulnerability to climate related disaster under SDG 13, while addressing acute food need under SDG 2. The project distributed 40 relief packages, each weighing 20 kilograms and combining food with essential non food items. The total project cost was PKR 350,000, funded through community support under SDG 17, Partnerships for the Goals. SDG 1, No Poverty, provided emergency relief that reduced the economic shock on flood affected households. SDG 2, Zero Hunger, delivered food assistance as part of the relief packages. SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities, supported community resilience following a local disaster. SDG 13, Climate Action, represented a direct response to a climate linked flooding event.
